13. Stretchy Sports Tape

Stretchy Sports Tape is a great tool to have that can be used in a variety of ways to help you resonate health. Where you use the tape, the amount of stretch/tension and your intention affect your results. You can use this for muscles, pain, bruises, etc. See how to use the tape and the optimal percentage to stretch the tape to get your desired effects. 

 

Here are some uses and recommended percentages of stretch/tension on the tape:

  • Pain Reduction: < 50% stretch (pain perception)
  • Joint Support: < 50% to facilitate motion OR >50% to limit motion (range of motion)
  • Muscle Support: < 50% (muscle activation, trigger points)
  • Neurologic Effects: < 25% (proprioception, muscle tone, balance and postural stability)
  • Circulatory Effects: < 25% (clearing bruises, swelling, blood flow)

 

When cutting the tape: Round the edges as seen here.

For a Bruise: Create a woven basket design by cutting the rope in thin strips, as seen here.

Instructions:

  1. If you have sensitive skin, cut a small piece of tape and apply to your skin for 15 minutes to determine if you react.
  2. Determine where you are using the tape and roughly measure the length of your tape to the needed amount, keeping in mind the amount of stretch you will be using. 
  3. Cut the tape to the desired length.
  4. Trim the edges of your tape so you have rounded corners.
  5. Rip off the back cover of the tape and secure one end to your body.
  6. Using the desired % stretch pull the tape in the recommended direction, applying the tape to your body.
  7. Briskly rub over the tape to make it warm to help activate the sticky adhesive.
  8. Wear the tape for a few hours or up to 1-2 days.
