18. Right Shoulder Blade Sense

Finding and sensing your right shoulder blade has the potential to restore creative flow that is more aligned with your true resonance. This reference point has the potential to unlock you from compensatory and imbalanced movements, patterns and behaviors that are now out of alignment with your greatest good.

One movement that engages your right lower trap muscle is the motion of drawing back a bow with your elbow up, as see in the above photo.

A new way of feeling, being and expressing yourself may arise when simply sensing your right shoulder blade in a variety of positions and activities throughout your day.

This technique focuses on your right shoulder blade and lower trapezius muscles and typically requires a partner.

Instructions to sense your Right shoulder blade:

  1. Cut 2-3 pieces of stretchy sports tape long enough so they stretch from the upper shoulder blade down along the lower trapezius muscle and towards the spine, as seen in the photo.
    1. Cut one piece of tape in half, length-wise, leaving about an inch at one end, so the strips stay connected.
  2. Place the tape on the body starting at the top end at the shoulder blade, stretching the tape down along the lower trapezius muscle and towards the spine, as seen in the photo.  *Use < 50% stretch or tension on your tape.
    1. When doing alone, bring your right arm up reaching overhead to your shoulder blade to place the top part of the tape. Then use your left hand down and behind your back to reach up and pull the tape. Use the wall to press the tape firmly when in place.
  3. Repeat with all your tape, using varying angles like the photo.

Use this technique 1-3x/week for the next 3-4 weeks and then as of as needed or desired. *Unless otherwise directed.

  • Optionally, use your testing technique to determine your optimal frequency and duration to perform.
  • Use as long and as often as desired but be mindful of skin irritation.

Bonus Journal Prompt:

  1. What does this new sensation give you?
  2. How can this new felt sense in your right shoulder blade support you in life now?
  3. *Your right arm and left leg/foot are connected! As you walk, sense that as your weight is on your left leg, you swing your right arm backwards. Feel the left foot sense the ground and the support you have from the floor as your right shoulder blade helps to pull your arm backwards.
