03. Stroking Sensory Input

Stroking is a physical input that typically goes in one direction. This type of sensory input supports your muscular system, lymphatic system and even integrates reflexes and sensory nerves.

The stroking sensation has the potential to be facilitatory or inhibitory:

  • Facilitatory meaning it awakes, engages or brings the area to life.
    • Faster paced
    • A variety of pressures
  • Inhibitory meaning it calms, relaxes or brings the area to rest.
    • Slower paced
    • Same pressure each time
