06. Multi-Sensory Emotional Processing

When you experience emotional stress or triggers, your brain and nervous system encode it as a multi-sensory pattern. This pattern can include the felt sense of your body (somatosensation), along with visual, auditory and sometimes even taste and smell associations. Because these patterns are stored through multiple sensory channels, creating new patterns such as non-reactivity, calm, joy, enthusiasm, etc in your nervous system is often most effective when using multi-sensory techniques.

Humans are highly visual beings, and a significant portion of your brain’s wiring is involved in processing and integrating visual information.

This technique draws strongly from Cognomovement but with additional layers using sound and specific postural and breathing techniques to provide amplify your multi-sensory reprocessing experience. It is structured as a protocol that includes 6 steps to complete. To prepare, review the entire protocol and gather the required equipment.

Multi-Sensory Emotional Processing Protocol Outline:
  1. Establish Your Baseline
    • Identify the: Issue, emotion, location, sensations and intensity.
  2. Practice the Breathing Method
    • Gently inhale through nose, fully exhale with pursed lips, pause 3 seconds.
  3. Find Your Frequencies
    • Use the Free Resonate Health Harmonic Resonance app to play different frequency tones and select the ones that feel the best.
    • Adjust the tones playing until you find the combination that leaves you feeling more relaxed in your body. This will be your frequency bundle that you use in this protocol.
  4. Perform the Integrative Techniques
    • Think about your issue while you perform these integrative techniques and breathe.
  5. Re-check Baseline
    • Take note in your private Resonate Health journal.
  6. Reference a New State of Being
    • Create a journal entry that includes reminders of the positive sensations, feelings, shift in energy, etc.
    • Take note of any detail: physical (sensations), heart (neutral or positive emotional states), mind (positive word, statement or new belief), soul (coherent aligned embodied sense of Self and true purpose).

STEP 1: Establish Your Baseline

Always establish your clear baseline

GUIDANCE TO ESTABLISH YOUR BASELINE

Follow these steps to identify your current: Issue-Emotion-Location-Sensation-Intensity
1. Identify the Issue

To start, it is essential to identify what you specifically want to address. You likely have multiple issues going on but it is best to choose one at a time and work on them sequentially.

Choose the main issue, stressor or trigger you want to address. If multiple issues are present, focus on the one that feels most dominant right now. Consider whatever is triggering the most stress in your life at the moment. This could be:

  • A health problem
  • A relationship
  • A financial situation
  • A professional or work issue
  • A community or even global situation
  • The political climate
  • Anything else that creates stress

If you are having trouble identifying something, refer to the Working with your Triggers Self-Reflection.

2. Identify the Emotion

Allow yourself to consider your issue, stressor or trigger and bring up the emotional response in your body. There may be multiple layers of emotions that come up for you. Choose the one that feels the most dominant at the moment. Examples include:

  • Anxiety
  • Fear
  • Frustration
  • Anger
  • Overwhelm
  • Sadness

If you are having trouble identifying what emotion you are experiencing refer to the Negative Emotions Reference List for assistance.

If your emotional trigger is too intense or overwhelming for you, bring it up to the intensity that you can handle at this time. As you work through the protocol the intensity will lower and you can then bring up the remaining portions of it.

3. Locate Where You Feel it

As you allow yourself to experience the emotional response, notice where you feel it in your body:

  • Chest
  • Abdomen
  • Throat
  • Head
  • Other body part or region

And identify any related sensations such as:

  • Tightness
  • Pressure
  • Discomfort
  • Heat
  • Constriction
  • Some other physical sensation or anything else
4. Rate the Intensity

Rate the intensity on a scale of 0–10:

  • 0 = No issue
  • 10 = Maximum intensity

You may experience a range of intensity as well.

Note anything you are aware of to establish a detailed and clear sense of your baseline right now.

More details now will assist in acknowledging changes and progress later during the re-check in Step 5.

You have now identified the primary issue, emotion, where and how you feel it in your body and how intense it is.

This is your baseline and you will reflect back on this starting point at the end of this technique.

Before moving on, it is highly recommended to write this information down in your journal along with any other details that come to you. (Your Resonate Health Journal is private and is a great place to reflect.)

Next, you will review and practice the breathing method to be used throughout this protocol.

STEP 2: Practice Breathing Method

Breathing supports the healthy processing and integration of your current issue and it is important to continue to breathe to process the emotional energy.

Practice the breathing method described below now.

Breathing Method

We recommend the following breathing method:

    1. Inhale gently through your nose
    2. Pucker or purse your lips as you FULLY exhale all the air out of your lungs sensing your front lower ribs drop downwards into your belly and your abdominal wall draw in and engage. This will take about 4-8 seconds.
    3. Pause ~3 seconds after each exhale.

Perform a set of 3-5 breath cycles right now.

The only technique where you won't be focused on breathing is when you are naming the color on the horizontal tracking technique.

You have now reviewed and practiced the breathing method you will use during the integration techniques.

STEP 3: Find Your Frequencies

Sound is tremendously powerful at helping your nervous system rewire stress patterns. It is now time to open the Resonate Health Harmonic Resonance App

The goal of this step is to find a bundle of frequencies that leave you feeling more relaxed in your body.

Follow the guidance below to find frequencies that feel calming to you.

Guidance to Find Your Frequency Bundle

Open the Resonate Health Harmonic Resonance App here

  • This free app plays harmonics of frequencies structured in the golden ratio. We credit Banah Winn with discovering the healing impact of listening to frequencies structured in the golden ratio.
  • The default setting is GOLDEN – 174 Hz.
  • Use the Harmonic Resonance App – Adjusting Frequencies Demonstration Video below to learn how to use the app.

1. Body Check-In

Before listening to any tone bundle, notice how you feel in your body. The goal is to find the frequency bundle that helps you feel more relaxed.

2. Begin with the Default Frequency Bundle

Press Begin to play the GOLDEN – 174 Hz default frequency bundle.

Check in with your body and record your response in your journal:

  • = I feel more relaxed
  • X = I feel more tense or less comfortable
  • = I notice no difference

3. Adjust the Frequencies if Needed

If the default bundle makes you feel more tense, less comfortable or no difference, adjust the frequencies in the order below, checking your body’s response after each change.

Continue adjusting until you find the combination that leaves you feeling more relaxed in your body. If you are unable to find one that makes you feel more relaxed then go with the one that is neutral and doesn't make a difference. This becomes your frequency bundle for the protocol.

Use the Harmonic Resonance App – Adjusting Frequencies Demonstration Video below for guidance.

GOLDEN – 174 Hz

  1. Unhighlight 456 Hz and reassess (✓, X or –).
  2. Unhighlight 282 Hz and reassess (✓, X or –).

SCHUMANN

  1. Switch from GOLDEN to SCHUMANN and reassess (✓, X or –).
  2. Unhighlight 1002 Hz and reassess (✓, X or –).
  3. Unhighlight 501 Hz and reassess (✓, X or –).
  4. Unhighlight 251 Hz and reassess (✓, X or –).

4. If You Still Feel Tense

Use SCHUMANN with only 62.6 Hz and 125 Hz highlighted.

5. Use Your Frequency Bundle Throughout the Protocol

Once you have established your frequency bundle, keep the tones playing continuously throughout the protocol.

  • Standing or sitting: Place the device behind you, centered as closely as possible with the midline of your body. If that is not possible, place it in front of you, centered with your body’s midline.
  • Lying down: Place the device above your head.

You have now set up your device, playing your specific frequency bundle, in a comfortable location.

Keep the frequencies playing continuously and move on to the next step .

You may change the frequencies and tone playing at anytime to ensure it is grounding and centering for you. Your frequency bundle can change so adjust the tone as needed.

STEP 4: Perform Integration Techniques

Perform the following techniques in the order listed below while you focus on feeling the primary emotion and bodily sensations that you identified in Step 1.

  • It is best to do the techniques in standing. However, if you cannot tolerate standing, then sitting or even laying on your back with your knees bent can work just as well.

Before you begin the integration techniques below, intentionally bring up the trigger and the primary emotion generated to the highest intensity that you feel comfortable working with at this time.

  • If there are additional emotions associated with your issue you might notice them more as you proceed through the protocol. Try to focus on the primary emotion you identified in Step 1 until it is completely neutralized. You can repeat this process with other emotions that come up.

You've completed the last integration technique. Great job!

We recommend taking note of any particularly challenging techniques or any that felt really powerful in processing and integrating your triggered emotion.

Then go to the step to re-check and determine what's next to optimize this protocol for you.

STEP 5: Re-check Your Baseline

After completing the last integration technique it is time to tune back into yourself and the original issue.

Use the following guidance to re-check and determine your next steps.

Guidance To Re-check Your Baseline
  1. Consider your stressor or trigger
  2. Do you still feel the same emotional response? If there are additional emotions associated with this pattern you might be noticing them more now. Specifically, focus on the emotion you just addressed.
  3. Do you still feel it in the same areas of your body?
  4. Rate it on a 0-10 scale.
  5. Determine next steps:
    • If your rating is greater than 0,
      • Then it is recommended to continue to repeat this process starting at Step 1, until your rating is a 0.
    • If your rating is now a 0,
      • Then you are all done processing it and may move on to Step 6

OR

      • You may choose to repeat this process with any other emotions that are coming up.

Troubleshooting:

After repeating the process from Step 1, if you are unable to get your rating to a 0, it is suggested to:

  • Take a break and try again at a later time
  • Be open to a different type of emotional processing modality
  • Consider a 1:1 session for guidance and support

At this time, your rating should be a 0 for the issue you were just focusing on.

Now that you have neutralized your emotional pattern, it's time to establish a new one that better supports your greater good.

In the last step you will focus on referencing a new multidimensional experience that is authentically aligned with you.

STEP 6: Referencing a New State of Being

Congratulations!

It is now time to establish a new empowering multidimensional experience that supports you!

It is recommended to listen to your Harmonic Resonance frequency bundle and breathe as you perform this final step.

Reference your new state of being during the day and use your anchor to remind yourself.

The more you use the anchors or references you have connected with the new positive experience, the easier and faster you will be able to bring up those sensations and actually embody them.

You may repeat this process as often as desired for whatever issue you want to address.

Overall Goals:

    • Keep your head straight and still with your neck/shoulders relaxed while performing the visual tracking techniques
    • Perform eye tracking without strain, skipping or nystagmus
    • Reduce your emotional trigger intensity to 0/10
    • Be able to perform the breathing method throughout the steps
    • Optional bonus to incorporate vocal toning and expression during the techniques
    • Be able to reference an alternative state of being of embodiment and anchor positive reminders of this experience
    • Use this Multi-Sensory Emotional Processing Protocol as guidance for any related or new issue now or in the future
