01. Right Ear Occlusion

Use this easy technique to support your nervous system regulation and more comfortably experience the present moment.

This technique dampens the input of auditory sensory stimuli experienced by your right ear, which reduces some of the input that drives sympathetic tone and the ‘fight-or-flight’ response. This allows more input through the left ear, increasing parasympathetic tone, ‘rest and digest,’ assisting you with nervous system regulation.Use this at any time to come into a calmer state and to get yourself out of a patterned ‘fight -or-flight’ response.

Instructions:

  1. Place a cotton ball or an ear plug in your right ear.
    1. Rip the cotton ball to size for comfort, or use a tissue or toilet paper rolled up. There are also new devices of ear plug that funnel and dampen the sound if you want to purchase something.
    2. Keep this in your ear for ~7 minutes or until you notice a change in how you feel. Remove it when desired.
      • You may place in both ears as desired.
    3. You may leave the cotton ball in for as long as you like, although it is recommended to note the timing of the technique’s effectiveness. You may find that after prolonged use, the once notable benefits may fade. This does not always happen, but it can especially if this technique is not the only thing that needs to be provided to shift states.

Use this technique ~1-3x/day for the next 4 days. *Unless otherwise directed.

  • Optionally, use your testing technique to determine your optimal frequency and duration to use this.
  • You may experience: A sense of calming within yourself and your body. Relaxation of muscles in the head, neck, jaw and back. Feeling more grounded, centered, aligned with yourself. Increased clarity and ability to focus. More balanced physically in your body.
