02. Neti Pot

The Neti pot helps to rinse and clear out your sinuses so you may properly breathe and allow air exchange to be experienced in both sides of your face and head.

Appropriate air flow through both nostrils helps to integrate your breathing and postural control of your head, neck and body as well as support nervous system regulation. If you are clogged up or have chronic pathogens or toxins in your sinuses they can wreak havoc on many systems, ultimately disrupting your resonance and experience of health.

The neti pot is a system that uses both pressure and gravity to rinse the sinuses. You place the soft tip up to your face and insert one nostril. Then slightly bend over and tilt to the side like a teapot pouring into your nose. The liquid naturally is guided through the sinuses and out the other nostril. This clears and rinses your sinuses so you may breathe more optimally.

It’s great to use the Neti pot when:

  • Returning from traveling
  • Being exposed to fragrances, smoke or other air pollutants
  • During allergy season
  • When you feel any sinus congestion or irritation including a clogged sinus or restricted air flow

Instructions:

  • Follow the directions provided with the Neti pot and saline packets. You will also need distilled water.
  • Use this ~1-2 times a day for the next 2 days, then 1 time every 3 days. *Unless otherwise directed

Optionally: use your testing technique to determine what nostril needs what direction of liquid flow, in or out. Typically there is an optimal direction to finish on to provide the best experience and results.

Tips for the Neti Pot:

  • Perform in the shower or over a sink or towel as there most likely will be less dripping.
  • The sensation of “water up your nose” lasts briefly and then you only feel the liquid flowing through and it is generally comfortable.
  • If you are really clogged, the liquid may take a few seconds to minutes to travel through. Swallowing or even slightly snorting up the liquid helps get things flowing. *Be careful not to choke or inhale any liquid.
  • You may feel liquid at the back of your throat, sort and gather this liquid-mucous combination and spit it out, do not swallow.
  • You may experience ears regulating pressure noted as a popping or opening sensation, this may or may not change how well you perceive your hearing.
