08. Nasal Clearing

This technique was developed by Patrick McKweon and helps to clear the nasal passages so you can more easily breathe through your nose.

Nasal breathing is the primary, preferred way to breathe vs mouth breathing. If you tend to breathe through your nose it actually makes your nasal passages more congested and thus it is recommended to try to first breathe exclusively through your nose to see if that opens up your sinuses. Otherwise, you are invited to try this technique.

Nod Up and Down

Turn Side to Side

Tilt Side to Side

Instructions:

  1. Pinch your nose as you simultaneously hold your breath.
  2. While holding your nose, nod your head up and down until you feel an urge to breathe again.
  3. Unblock your nose to take a couple of regular breaths.
  4. Occlude your nose again as you hold your breath. This time turn your head side to side until you feel an urge to breathe again.
  5. Unblock your nose to take a breath or two.
  6. Occlude your nose again as you hold your breath. This time tilt your head side to side until you feel an urge to breathe again.
  7. Complete ~ 1-3 cycles.

Perform 1-3x/day or as needed to clear your nasal passages and sinuses. *Unless otherwise directed.

  • Optionally, use your testing technique to determine your optimal frequency and duration to perform.
