04. Ear Massage

In reflexology the ear is known to hold connections to the entire body. This ear massage is an easy technique to do on yourself or with a partner. It is fantastic for relaxation, helps relieve head tension or headaches, supports your entire body's energy balance and provides a calming effect to regulate your nervous system.

Instructions for performing on self:

  1. Get into a comfortable position laying on your back.
  2. Place a rolled up towel under your neck.
  3. Reach up with both hands and grab your ears, thumb on the back of your ear and the fingers wrapping and cupping around the front. 
  4. Press your fingers and gently squeeze with your thumb using circular motions massage the ears. Gently pull and rub your ears in all directions; outward, backward, forward and on all diagonals at a gentle pace and comfortable pressure. 
  5. Provide continuous motion massaging the ears making small and large circles on every part of the ear and where it connects to the head. 
  6. Repeat until you are more relaxed or until it feels complete for you, ~3-6 minutes. 
  7. Roll to your side and sit up slowly to prevent light headedness. Drink at least 8 oz of water afterwards.

Perform this technique 2-3x/week or as often as desired. *Unless otherwise directed

  • Optionally, use your testing technique to determine your optimal frequency and duration to perform.

Instructions when performing with a partner:

  1. Get into a comfortable position laying on your back
  2. Place a rolled up towel under your neck and relax. 
  3. Partner: Holds one ear in each hand, thumbs on the inside and fingers wrapping around the back. 
    1. Ask if the amount of pull is comfortable. 
    2. Watch their face for sign of discomfort or relaxation 
  4. Press your fingers and gently squeeze with your thumb using circular motions massage the ears. Gently pull and rub the ears in all directions; outward, backward, forward and on all diagonals at a gentle pace and comfortable pressure. 
  5. The ears may feel slightly looser, released or relaxed in tension. The recipient may yawn, eyes water or relax even more. 
  6. Repeat until the ears feel released and relaxed or until it feels complete for your partner, typically ~3-10 minutes.
  7. Roll to your side and sit up slowly to prevent light headedness. Drink at least 8 oz of water afterwards.
