05. Awareness of Resistance

Aligning and Accepting Ourselves Through Awareness of Resistance

What is resistance?

Think of a rowboat on a river. The flowing current of the river represents your true innate nature. This current is the most aligned, sovereign and free version of yourself. The current is you being yourself in the truest form, with all your power, resonating health.

In this rowboat there are 6 rowers. 3 rowers are facing and rowing in the same direction as the current, and the other 3 rowers are facing and rowing in the opposite direction, against the current.

In this situation you have 2 opposing forces, creating resistance, a standstill, spinning, cyclical state of being, against the current.

This may feel like you aren’t moving forward in life, are stuck in a rut, or being opposed by obstacle after obstacle. Yet the rowboat will ever so slowly be guided along with the underlying current, yet you still experience this resistance to flowing with your true self.

Resistance can be experienced within all dimensions of you including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. You may resist choosing a new healthy habit, leaving a toxic relationship or letting yourself feel happiness. This may be you self sabotaging, allowing fear to get in your way, or moving at an overall slower pace in making decisions that align with what is best for you.

These rowers are pieces of you that are in resistance to your own natural flow and are holding you back from experiencing the real true you in life.

Think of the power your rowboat would have if all parts were facing the same direction and rowing with the current.

These rowers in resistance are aspects of yourself, that may be different personality traits, certain versions of yourself, or maybe a piece or fragment of you. Different parts of you may show up at different times and have different roles and responsibilities they assume.

It is important to know each rower is rowing in their chosen direction for a reason, and they truly believe they are doing all they can to help you in the best way they know how. These rowers are so focused and use all their energy to complete their task or carry their burden, they often forget they are in a boat of other rowers that all have some type of common goal.

It's as if each rower was in a small cubicle, blocked from the other rowers with no awareness of their connection to the water, the boat or anything else. If they could see the bigger picture, the current and other rowers they may choose to rejoin the rowboat in a new way and role so that it could be a coherent and harmonious ride.

In order to create an experience where all of the rowers are rowing in the same direction and with the current, we need to connect to the parts of you that are in resistance. We need to connect with each of the rowers that are opposing your natural flow.

Each rower must be acknowledged and their perspective needs to be heard. By connecting with them we make space for them and give them a chance to express themselves. Why are they doing what they are doing and what do they need to be able to join the rest of the rowers and the natural current?

Each rower must be reminded they are a part of the whole and they have a vital role in flowing with the current. Realigning your rowers allows you to gather your energy and power to align with your truth and pure flow within the current.

Reflect on the resistance you are aware of in your life or within yourself for ~8-20 minutes over the next 2 days. *Unless otherwise directed.

  • What resistance are you aware of in your life at this time?
  • Is there a decision or choice that you are not making because of resistance within yourself?
  • If you acknowledge resistance that you feel ready to address, proceed with the Alignment Beyond Resistance meditation.
  • Perform this self-reflection again in about 4 weeks to assess your progress and to gather any new information to continue to support you and your greatest good.
  • Optionally, use your testing technique to determine your optimal frequency and duration to use this reflection.
