17. Sungazing

Sun gazing is an ancient and meditative practice that is as simple as it sounds. You simply gaze at the sun at dawn and dusk. This practice has the potential to provide many benefits including better sleep, regulated mood, increased energy, mental clarity, more self-awareness and so much more. The healing benefits of the sun are an untapped mystery that sun gazing can begin to connect you to.

We recommend either of the following sun gazing methods. Staring directly into the sun is not recommended and has the potential to injure and damage your eyes.

  1. Gaze toward or in the direction of the sun for the first and last 12 min of the day as this is the safest time to expose your eyes to more direct sunlight. You may also perform with eyes closed.
  2. “Micro-dose” the sun through closed eyes. During the day with closed eyes, tilt your face towards the sun while quickly moving your hand over your face like a windshield wiper. This light/shadow/light/shadow pattern micro-doses the sunlight. Perform for 30 sec - 7 min, or as long as desired or comfortable.
