04. Smell Nature

Connecting with the natural scent of the world around you supports you in being present in the moment, grounds you and opens the door to reflect on what you smell around you.  

Scent plays a powerful role in memory, physical and emotional experiences and healing. The smells you bring in can provide both positive and negative experiences for different reasons. 

Instructions:

  1. Step outside, close your eyes and breathe in the natural world around you. If you live in a city or highly populated area consider traveling to a more open space just outside the city to experience more fresh air. 
  2. Naturally reflect on the following: 
    1. What do I smell? Is there one or more smells?
    2. Do I like or dislike the smells around me?
    3. What sensations, feelings, or emotions do these smells bring up for me? 
    4. How may the importance of smell connect to my current intentions or goals in life?
    5. What smells may I need to bring into my life to support me right now?
  3. Write down any significant information in your journal as you may continue to integrate the importance of this sensory system. 

Perform this activity for ~3 minutes, 1x/day for the next 3-7 days. *Unless otherwise directed.
