15. Right Inner Thigh Relaxation

Your right inner thigh is a common muscle to be overused and tight that causes twist and torque in your legs and pelvis leading to postural mal-alignment issues. Quite often when you lay on your back the tension in your muscles twists your legs out and adds more tension to your inner thigh.

In the top photo there is tension and static holding of the legs to keep them in place. When you are laying, relaxing, etc. you don't held tension in your muscles.

This technique focuses on relaxing and inhibiting your right inner thigh so your body can release tension and find better alignment. By wrapping your legs or propping them, you can finally fully release muscle tension and relax.

Instructions:

  1. Lay on your back on a comfortable surface, using a towel roll or pillow for your neck/head.
  2. Place pillows under your legs or support your legs over the base of a chair or couch to accomplish ~ a 90 degree angle at your hips and knees. As if you were sitting in a chair but laying on your back.
  3. Choose which position is more comfortable
    1. Option 1: Place a pillow, folded towel, bolster prop or even a wall on the outside of your right knee so it is supported. Add more support as needed until your right leg and hip are able to completely relax and rest. Your leg may still slightly roll out to the side but the prop will limit the range of motion and allow it to be a more safe and restful position to loosen.
    2. Option 2: "Mermaid Wrap” by bringing your legs together and wrap a towel or blanket around both legs tucking it underneath. Relax your legs and let them rest and receive the support from the wrap. This prevents both legs rolling out to the sides and can allow the hips and back to relax even more.
  4. Lay back and remain in this position, relaxing your leg, for ~6-8 min or until you feel more comfortable and the muscle feels like it has loosened and relaxed. Use whenever you are sitting or laying to relax your legs.
