14. Ancestral Influence Self-Reflection

This Ancestral Trauma Self-Reflection is here to support you in acknowledging any limiting beliefs, patterns or ways of being that have been embedded within you since your ancestors.

Whether this is a new practice for you or something you do often, it is time to acknowledge any ancestral patterns that may be holding you back from being the true you, today.

Reflect on the prompts below for ~5-30 minutes for the next 1-2 days. *Unless otherwise directed.

  • You don’t have to do or change anything, just remain curious about yourself as you reflect.
  • To get the most out of the witness experience is to set the intention to refrain from any type of positive or negative judgment and be neutral in your observation. Be open and curious about what you may discover! It’s an exploration of You!
  • Perform this self-reflection again in about 4 weeks to assess your progress and to gather any new information to continue to support you and your greatest good.
  • Optionally, use your testing technique to determine your optimal frequency and duration to use this reflection technique.

Ancestral Influence self-reflection prompts:
  • What traumatic experience did your family or ancestors potentially experience in life as a collective in society? This may be war, depression, or any historical experience.
  • Are you aware of any life experience or situation that any one of your ancestors or family went through? This may be a story you have heard about them or something they have expressed directly to you.
  • Are you able to identify any ancestral trauma patterns within yourself?
    • How might these patterns be playing out physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually for you?
  • What have you learned from your ancestors' experience and/or from carrying the ancestral trauma pattern(s)?
    • Are there any positive aspects to be gained?
    • What behaviors or ways of being do you choose, consciously or perhaps unconsciously, based on these patterns?
    • Did you decide to think or believe a certain way based on these influences?
  • Is there an activity, habit or experience that you feel overly drawn to or repelled from? (ie. sex, eating a certain food, drinking a particular beverage, types of social interactions, physical exercise, etc.) As you reflect, notice how you feel versus how others may feel about this same thing. Is your perception biased?
    • How may your mother or father feel about this activity? What are their underlying beliefs related to it?
    • How may a grandparent or sibling feel about this activity? What are their underlying beliefs related to it?
    • Do they healthily engage with this activity or are there any imbalances? Perhaps they overindulge on ice cream.
  • Are there any new thoughts, beliefs, or ways of being you want to choose now that can support you in clearing old ancestral patterns?
