02. Smudging

It's time to clear your space!

Smudging is an ancient and sacred practice of burning dried herbs to cleanse negativity, toxicity or low vibrational energy. Doing this promotes neutrality within the space, clarity, purity, wisdom, healing, positive energy, etc. Each herb has its own qualities and benefits that shifts energy into more alignment and resonance. You may even use this technique to clear out a stagnant or strong smell or order!

Browse the following 8 options or use your testing technique to select one of these sacred plants to smudge.

Equipment needed:

  • Item you are burning
  • Small dish or shell to catch the ash and hold the herb
  • Match or lighter. Matches preferred.

Instructions:

  1. Set your intention, adapt this one to match exactly what you need.
    1. “I set the intention that this smoke will clear and cleanse this space and bring in alignment, harmony and love.”
  2. Open ventilation in the spaces you plan to smudge.
  3. Hold the herb at a 45 angle and lite the end.
  4. Once lit, let it stay on fire for a few seconds and then blow out or gently shake out the flame. You will see small embers on the end and smoke.
  5. Repeat until you have the desired amount of smoke, a light to medium flowing stream.
    1. Be mindful that the flow of smoke is not enough to set off alarms.
  6. Waft the smoke and move it around letting the smoke and your intention optimize the space.
  7. Hold the intention of what you are doing while you smudge.

Perform this technique 1-2x/day for the next 3 days, then as often as desired. *Unless otherwise directed.
