20. Jaw and Hands Integration #2

This technique helps to reduce any extra tension between your hands and jaw as well as teach you how to appropriately integrate their motor control.

Your jaw is intimately connected to your hands. Often, if there is tension in one area it relates to tension in the other. Consider your development as it relates to feeding. You use your hand to bring food into your mouth. Therefore, these movements become coupled in your brain and body.

As you mature in your development, ideally you learn to be able to independently operate your jaw and hands for other types of function. However, if you experienced any hiccups in this developmental process (including persistent ones today) due to stress (physical, mental or emotional) you may still have patterns of tension retained between your hands and mouth.

Instructions:

  1. Make a fist with both hands with your thumbs crossed over your fingers. Notice the pressure in your palms from your finger placement.
  2. Inhale through your nose.
  3. Exhale as you make a “Ha” sound opening your hands simultaneously as you release any tension you are carrying in your jaw or hands.
  4. Complete 5-10 cycles.
  5. You will now reverse your hands and mouth so they are moving into opposite patterns.
  6. Inhale while you maintain your hands open with your mouth closed.
  7. Exhale as you close your hands and open your mouth.
  8. Complete 5-10 cycles.

Perform 2-3x/day for 8 days. *Unless otherwise directly
