01. Establishing Your Baseline

Before beginning any type of multi-sensory integration technique where your intention is to reduce tension or any type of stress pattern, it is essential to identify what you specifically want to address. You likely have multiple issues going on but it is best to choose one at a time and work on them sequentially.

Step 1: Identify the Issue

Choose the main issue you want to address. This may include:

  • Pain or tension in a specific area
  • Stress or an emotional state (e.g., anxiety, frustration, anger, sadness, overwhelm or confusion)
  • Any other bothersome sensation or concern

If multiple issues are present, focus on the one that feels most dominant right now.

Notice where you feel it in your body and identify any related sensations such as:

  • Tightness
  • Pressure
  • Discomfort
  • Heat
  • Constriction

Step 2: Rate the Intensity

Rate the intensity on a scale of 0–10:

  • 0 = no issue
  • 10 = maximum intensity

This is your baseline.

Step 3: After Completing the Sequence

Re-Check the Issue

Bring attention back to the original concern and notice any physical or emotional changes.

Re-Rate the Intensity

Again rate the issue from 0–10:

  • 0 = no issue
  • 10 = maximum intensity

Notice whether the intensity has:

  • Decreased
  • Stayed the same
  • Increased

Also notice whether the location or sensation in the body has changed.
