For those who’ve found the Medical Medium community, almost all of us have a story. A journey filled with trial and error, dead ends and breakthroughs. We’ve tried conventional medicine, alternative therapies, popular diets and trending supplements—yet still found ourselves unwell, searching for answers.
For me, the path started when I was just 8 years old. My mother became very sick with what would now be labeled as chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia. She was so unwell that we had to move in with my grandparents because she couldn’t care for me and my brother. As a child, I was terrified. I didn’t understand what was happening, only that my mom seemed to be slipping away and no doctor could explain why. In fact, they told her it was all in her head.
Then one day, she was watching a talk show and a doctor mentioned Epstein-Barr syndrome. As he described the symptoms, she realized they matched everything she was experiencing. She demanded testing, and sure enough, her Epstein-Barr virus results came back positive.
There was no treatment at the time, so she began to heal herself. She rested, soaked up the sun and slowly started to recover while we went to live with my grandparents. That experience planted a seed in me—an awareness that healing might come from outside the medical system.
The Nutrition Spark
Fast forward to my early 30s. I was dealing with stubborn acne from my teenage years, random aches and pains and an overwhelming fatigue that made me need a nap after lunch every day.
At the time, I had opened my own physical therapy practice and joined a holistic health networking group. During one meeting, a nutritionist spoke and something clicked. I decided to try my first 3-week elimination diet. The results blew me away—my acne cleared up, my years-long ankle tendonitis vanished and my energy rebounded. It was the beginning of my journey into nutrition.
Over the next decade, I explored almost every health trend and supplement I came across: paleo, vegan, fulvic and humic acid, zeolites, charcoal, bentonite clay, digestive bitters, essential oils, nightshade avoidance, protein powders, apple cider vinegar, L-carnitine, krill oil, collagen, vitamin D megadosing and many others. I even became a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and began weaving these strategies into my physical therapy practice as I found that so many of my patient’s pain patterns were rooted in systemic inflammation.
However, by the time I turned 40, I still didn’t feel great. My cholesterol was high, I was 10–15 pounds overweight, moody and irritable, experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding, uterine polyps, high breast density and still dealing with pain and fatigue. Blood tests indicated I had “autoimmune” issues. My patients weren’t healing the way I had hoped either.
Discovering Medical Medium
Then, near the summer solstice of 2019, I stumbled across Liver Rescue by Medical Medium. It felt like lightning struck twice—just like with my first elimination diet, this book opened an entirely new level of understanding.
For the first time, I began to see how my symptoms connected to my mother’s illness, the Epstein-Barr virus and even deeper patterns I hadn’t yet considered. I learned I had likely inherited the virus and was repeating the same health trajectory she had at my age.
By that point, my mom had gone through cancer and was in remission. As I dove deeper into the Medical Medium material, I came to understand that her cancer—just like her earlier chronic illness—was also linked to the Epstein-Barr virus. The connection between our stories felt undeniable, and profoundly motivating.
I immediately began my first 3-6-9 Liver Cleanse and was stunned by the transformation. My cravings for alcohol disappeared. My cholesterol dropped by 30 points. My energy surged. The aches and pains that had lingered for years began to ease.
The Challenge of Real Healing
The Medical Medium lifestyle hasn’t been easy to adopt. It runs counter to everything—mainstream medicine, functional and naturopathic beliefs, cultural norms and the comfort foods we grew up with. It’s a path that requires commitment, often feels isolating and can be overwhelming at times. But for many, it’s the path that finally brings answers.
Most of us don’t find our way to Medical Medium casually. We arrive here after exhausting every other option. Because nothing else worked. Because our symptoms were misunderstood. Because we couldn’t stop searching.
For me, it was a mix of witnessing my mother’s mysterious illness, navigating my own chronic symptoms and working with patients whose pain persisted despite conventional treatments. All of this led me to this healing path.
Over the past four years, my mother has been bravely facing liver cancer. As someone who has watched her endure so much over the course of her life, it’s been incredibly difficult to witness her go through this. While she hasn’t embraced the Medical Medium approach, I hold space for her journey and the choices she feels are right for her. We each have our own timing, our own path and our own internal roadblocks—some of which run deep and are shaped by personal experience, emotional history and even generational patterns.
Her experience has only deepened my understanding of how powerful these blocks can be—and how vital it is to address not just the physical symptoms, but the emotional and spiritual aspects of healing as well. Her journey has also strengthened my own commitment to the Medical Medium lifestyle, not only for my healing but in the hope of creating a different path forward for others.
What I’ve Learned
Healing isn’t just about food—it’s about unlearning. It’s about peeling away the layers of misinformation, habits and external influences that keep us stuck in our patterns. It’s about returning to the truth our bodies have known all along.
We are all entitled to our own belief systems and the free will to choose our path. My intention is to serve the light, support healing and help others reconnect with the wisdom of their bodies.
Witnessing my mother develop cancer has only deepened my commitment to this lifestyle. It serves as a powerful reminder of how vital it is to stay consistent in caring for my body and soul. I see now how easy it is to inherit not only viruses but also belief systems and behaviors that can unknowingly lead us down the same road. Her experience motivates me every day to choose a different path—to break the cycle and be an example of what healing can look like when we stay open to new possibilities.
Through my own experience—years of trial and error, studying nutrition, witnessing my mother’s journey and transforming my own health—I now support others as they navigate this often challenging but deeply rewarding path. Whether you're just starting or feeling stuck along the way, know that you're not alone. Healing is possible, and I’m here to help light the way.
True healing doesn’t come in a pill, trend or one-size-fits-all plan. It comes when we listen to our symptoms, trust the process and walk bravely toward what feels right—even when it goes against the grain.
