05. Canine Tapping

This technique may seem small but it has a big impact on your cranial bone and jaw alignment which then affects your posture below. Tapping your canine teeth together gives a powerful sensory input that supports postural alignment simply by letting them tap!

Your canines are the third teeth over from the midline of your bite. You have four of them, two upper and two lower.

Equipment needed:

  • Q-tip or small rolled paper towel to mimic the thickness of the end of a Q-tip.
  • You may not need anything depending on your alignment but usually to ensure there is no other tooth interference, use a Q-tip.

Instructions:

  1. Start in a supported seated position.
  2. Tap your right canines together 50x ensuring that no other teeth are hitting. If you are unable to isolate canine contact without other teeth contact, place a Q-tip between your canines and tap on the Q-tip.
    • You may need to look in a mirror to make sure that only your canines are in contact.
  3. Then repeat this process by tapping on the left canines 50x.
  4. Finish with 50 more repetitions of tapping on the right canines.
  5. Complete 1-3 cycles of 50x right, 50x left, 50x right canine tapping. Always start and finish on the right canines.

Perform 2-3x day for the next 2-4 days and then as often as desired.  *Unless otherwise directed.

  • Optionally, use your testing technique to determine your optimal frequency and duration to perform.
